A stray from New Haven, CT who snuck onto a ship to France and ended up becoming the most decorated dog of World War I. Stubby warned soldiers of gas attacks, found the wounded on the battlefield, and even caught a German spy.

After the war, he marched in parades, met presidents, and became a national hero.

People still leave toys and treats at his statue in Middletown, Connecticut; a touching tribute to a dog who never stopped serving
