The concept of assigning a mood to a whole day is also detrimental, in my opinion, if you're going through a difficult period or you're naturally a negative person. It just erases every small positive moment in an otherwise awful day. And these are important to notice and cling onto. You're going through a shit period and you know this, you don't need to keep track of it. Start keeping track of all the small and positive things that happen, as a start. You got this, little by little.
Edit: wow, I didn't expect this to blow up like this! I'd like to take this chance to say to everyone who is struggling: how you feel right now it's OK. It will pass. You don't have any obligation to feel good all the time. How you feel sometimes has no explanation, you can also feel bad when everything is going right, and that's OK. Love yourself and cut yourself some slack. You have been in similar situations before and went through the other side: you will get through it this time as well. This, too will pass.
Hello, long term extremely depressed person here. A couple things.
As people have pointed out before, something very clearly Happened. But the good news is, things that change can change back. It may take time to get to a new equilibrium, but as time passes you’ll reach a new normal and the bad thing won’t feel as constantly soul crushingly bad any more. You will look back on this as dark times, but don’t use this to conclude that the dark times will last forever. (Unless June 30th was a railroad spike through your brain and you now lack the physiological structures required to experience happiness, in which case disregard.)
Secondly. You might want to switch to logging multiple times a day. Right now you have a streak going. And if at any point during the day you hit a low point, at that time it feels like you’ve earned the right to continue the streak. You fill in the red. Don’t get me wrong, having extremely low points every single day is still bad. This is something that warrants attention and you both need and deserve help. But the worst symptom of depression is your own brain telling “this is always and forever” and you want to make sure you aren’t letting it use bad spots in a normal day to reinforce that belief. Logging at set times multiple times during the day can help determine whether your brain’s lying to you.
Thirdly. About the streak. Having an orange day is not going to invalidate the reds. Depression isn’t 24/7 misery and doesn’t need to be to be valid. If you’re having deep pockets of misery for twenty minutes a day, you have a real problem, and the ability to pull out of it doesn’t mean it wasn’t real.
