I get the premise of the joke but as a WW2 history fan I also think this over simplification of US history is what I find problematic about the US right. The truth of the matter is that a lot of those brave men that stormed the beaches of France to end Hitler’s fascism also believed that a black man shouldn’t sit at a lunch counter with a white man.
