I've been down a few underground coal mines here in Australia and its pretty common to just walk into an old panel and piss and shit on the ground. The poo pods on offer are so foul. No one in their right mind would use them. The problem comes when the water pumps fail and all the shit and piss starts floating around in the active panels. Thank God for the gum boots.
