Context - The Gen Z of Nepal had launched a nationwide peaceful protest today against corruption. The protest coincided with the government's decision to ban 26 major social media platforms on September 4, 2025 due to failure of these platforms to comply with their undemocratic requirements. The initially peaceful protest escalated quickly with clashes leaving at least more than 22 dead and hundreds injured. Authorities imposed curfews and the Home Minister has resigned amid mounting pressure.
The pattern of Targated house raiding and arrests are very similar to the ones seen in Bangladesh back in 2024. The main motivation for these nightraids used to be "Sowing Terror" and making sure the parents and families of these arrested students and Gen Z folks would stop them from going to protest out of fear. If the death tolls start rising high the Government will start picking body of the streets make them disappear or make sure the hospitals refuse to do post mortam and death certificate for the dead victims to make sure there aren't any record of how they were killed or when. This dosent even come close to the amount of fake news and misinformation the Government would be spreading through social media to make sure pressure of fear and terror keep building up on the citizens so they would ultimately break under pressure. Very Similar patterns where seen in Serbia as well. I can only hope courage would prevail.
