Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský announced that Ukraine has already received more than one million large-calibre artillery rounds under the Czech-led ammunition initiative this year, with the goal set at 1.8 million shells by year-end, according to pap.pl on August 25, 2025.

Lipavský emphasized the military significance of the effort: “Thanks to our ammunition supply initiative, Russia’s artillery advantage on the battlefield has been reduced fivefold, helping Ukraine hold its front lines. Halting this initiative would be a gift to Putin,” he said at the Czech annual ambassadors’ conference.

The minister noted that 16 participating countries have contributed, with 1.5 million rounds delivered last year. The total is expected to reach 1.8 million rounds in 2025.

According to Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, the program, launched in 2024, remains on track to meet its objectives, with deliveries confirmed by UNN and UATV.

Reports indicate that as of mid-2025, around 850,000 rounds had been shipped, including 320,000 NATO-standard 155 mm shells, with contributions from Canada, Germany, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Denmark.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during his May visit to Prague, underscored that of the 3 million artillery shells expected from allies in 2025, 1.8 million are to come via the Czech-led channel.

Earlier, it was reported that Denmark has contributed to the Czech-led artillery procurement effort as part of its $634 million aid package for Ukraine between 2025 and 2028, including funding for ammunition.

The west really needs to get their arsenal of democracy rolling again. North Korea’s GDP is a tiny tiny tiny fraction of these 16 countries but they’ve been able to give russia 6-10 million shells.

Sounds like a lot, but I wonder how long 1 million shells last. Is that like, a month’s worth of bombardments?

Google AI (and no, I do not wish to further expand my research than that) suggests Ukraine fires about 2,000 shells per day. That’s only because of shortage though- Russia fires roughly 10,000 shells per day. Considering a rate of 5,000 shells per day, one million shells will last two hundred days. I guess that’s more than a month, to be fair.
