Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows said Monday the Democrats who had arrest warrants issued against them would be allowed to leave the chamber only under certain circumstances.

"Members who have not been present until today, for whom arrest warrants were issued, will be granted written permission to leave only after agreeing to be released into the custody of a designated [Department of Public Safety] officer appointment under the rules of the house," he said, adding that the officers would "ensure your return Wednesday at 10 a.m."

"For those still absent, civil arrest warrants remain in force," Burrows added.

Nothing says "This is a state that values freedom" like putting armed cops on legislators to monitor and control their movements.

People need to be a LOT more upset about this. They made politicians sign, under duress, a permission form to be surveilled by the police or be illegally detained.

These politicians did nothing illegal. In fact, they did nothing the other side wouldn't do in the future, and haven't done in the past.

And yet the media acts like this is just another day. People act like this is just another day. Authoritarianism is being normalized in our country.
