My mum, my uncle and two of their friends were on an Interrail trip and boarded an already overfilled train in Bologna a couple of minutes before that happened...
Took them weeks to learn about what happened and how lucky they were.
As a remembrance of the tragic event, the station clock (seen in this picture on the corner of the right building, right above the destroyed section) has been left in its original stopped state at 10:25
Together with the clock, even the urban bus number 37 has become a symbol of the event, as it was used as the main vehicle to move the hundreds of injured to the hospitals of the city.

The clock in question
Together with the clock, even the urban bus number 37 has become a symbol of the event, as it was used as the main vehicle to move the hundreds of injured to the hospitals of the city.
