About a decade ago I paid $500 or so to fly in a B-24 Bomber through a touring nonprofit that raised funds for preserving the planes. This was maybe a year or two before a similar warbird crashed and killed many of the people aboard.
It was an unbelievable and humbling experience and gave me a whole new perspective on the risk and sacrifice made by the people who served in these planes. Literally one wrong step and you fall off the catwalks and out the landing gear covers.
I don’t know if man will ever make more beautiful machines than we did during WW2 era aviation.
