Man faces federal charges for child sex crimes after $1 bail release

Brent Trimbell, a 44-year-old resident of Delaware County, was arrested Sunday evening and appeared in court today July 28th on charges of sexual exploitation of a child, . The arrest was announced by Acting United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III and Craig L. Tremaroli, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the FBI.

According to the complaint, Trimbell reportedly exchanged sexually explicit messages with a female child victim, persuading her to create and send him videos of sexually explicit conduct. The complaint further reports that Trimbell had sexual contact with the victim on at least three occasions and sent her videos of himself masturbating.

Trimbell had previously been charged by state authorities with related sex offenses but was released on a $1 bail last week. If convicted of the federal charge of sexual exploitation of a child, Trimbell faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison, with a mandatory minimum of 15 years, and a term of supervised release ranging from five years to life. He could also face a $250,000 fine, property forfeiture, and restitution to the victim, and would be required to register as a sex offender.

Acting U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III said,

Trimbell was charged with serious state sex offenses but was released on bail. Now, Trimbell is in federal custody—facing serious federal offenses—which if convicted, will result in a mandatory term of imprisonment of 15 years. This is how we keep the children in our community safe.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Craig L. Tremaroli expressed gratitude for the swift coordination with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Attorney’s Office, which led to the federal charges. Tremaroli said,

The FBI, together with our law enforcement partners, will continue to coordinate with our state and local partners to share the information and resources needed to ensure anyone hurting our most vulnerable is investigated and brought to justice.

Following his initial court appearance, Trimbell was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshals Service pending further proceedings.
