That’s the best and purest form of love right there. My one and only kiddo is adopted, I was fortunate to be in the delivery room when she was born. That love hit me like a ton of bricks - truly impossible to describe. Just pure and slightly feral love - knowing immediately in your soul that you’d do anything and everything to protect this little thing without a second thought. I swear it was like we could have whole conversations just by staring into each other’s eyes.

Remember that day clear as ever in my life. Going from not being a father to being one in effectively an instant (I never “bonded,” with the fetus myself).

Even as a fully independent and functional adult, the weight of now needing to keep this baby alive and give them the best chance at life hits, at the exact same time as indescribable love.

The 100 days of darkness after that though holy shit. What a grind. But after THAT the magic comes around again!
