Xbox has reportedly made over $120 million in revenue from Forza Horizon 5 in one month on PS5. The popular racing franchise sold 2 million copies on PS5, an insane number. The latest figure is unconfirmed but expected to be close to 3 million.
The news came from Turn 10 Game Level Designer, Harrison B, who shared the figure in his LinkedIn profile. However, soon after we broke the news on social media, Harrison edited out the sales number.

If the figure is even remotely accurate, then this is great news for the struggling Xbox brand as it can live on through PlayStation.
Forza has always been one of the Xbox’s primary exclusive titles, right up there with Halo and Gears of War. If it were to launch on PS5 and perform well, it would mean a complete shift in how Xbox is viewed.
Rather than a console-first ecosystem, Xbox is now firmly leaning into becoming a publisher/platform-agnostic service.
The question of “why buy an Xbox at all” comes to mind when looking at the Forza Series. If Forza Horizon 5 is available on PS5 along with other top-tier Xbox games, why purchase the console?
For casual gamers, all of the hardware advantages Xbox had are nearly non-existent. With Game Pass available on PC and with cloud gaming, the value of purchasing an Xbox drops dramatically.
In the long run, selling 2 million copies on PS5 means reinforcing the perception that Microsoft is losing the console war in favor of focusing on services and software.
This is the perception, of course. However, the short-term revenue and reach are certainly enticing. Selling 2 million copies and marketing a title that has already covered its costs years ago is a win all around.
