Miguel Uribe Turbay , a presidential candidate with the Democratic Center party, was shot during a political gathering on Saturday in the Fontibón district of Bogotá, according to local news reports citing Colombia’s National Police.
The incident took place in El Golfito Park, located in the Modelia neighborhood, on Saturday, where Uribe was meeting and greeting supporters. A man reportedly approached him during the event and opened fire, hitting him in the back.
His bodyguards responded immediately, and a gunfight broke out. At least one other person is believed to have been injured in the exchange. Uribe was quickly transported to the Colombia Clinic. Initial reports suggest he may have been shot in the head or on the right side of his body. His condition has not yet been officially confirmed, but it is believed to be serious.
Bogota mayor has confirmed that the suspected attacker has been taken into custody.
Video footage shared on social media captured the chaos that followed the attack. Uribe can be seen being supported by two men, one of whom applies pressure to his head to control the bleeding. Panic-stricken voices in the crowd called for an ambulance, which arrived shortly after as the security team prepared to move him.
An ambulance passing through Modelia Park, located in the western part of the capital, transported Uribe to the Engativá Medical Center for emergency treatment.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro also condemned the shooting via a post on X, writing, "My solidarity with the Uribe family and the Turbay family. I don't know how to mitigate their pain." (Translated from Spanish)
Miguel Uribe , a vocal critic of President Gustavo Petro’s administration, is one of the most prominent figures from the Democratic Center party. His condition remains unclear, though reports suggest it is serious.

moderately graphic with blood and him being carried away but doesn't show the shooting itself. The article says he may have been hit in the head and judging by the use of a bandage to apply pressure to his head I'd say it seems that way. I didn't see any movement
edit: there is video on twitter of the shooting, he gets hit in the head you see his hair blow out
edit2: cbs news reporting his party says he was shot in the head

I wondered if he's related to Diana Turbay, who was kidnapped by the Medellin Cartel and died during a botched rescue attempt. Shades of Luis Carlos Galan another victim of the Medellin Cartel.
