As you probably know, the state of the gaming industry has been very problematic in recent months and years. There are numerous issues there, but the most important ones are probably of a financial nature, as well as those related to the increased use of AI in the industry.

Since the gaming industry is maintained by the people and studios that make the games, the fact that we’re seeing more and more lay offs, cancellations, as well as studio closures is a worrying fact.

And while we don’t know what exactly inspired him, Patrick Wren, a senior encounter designer at Respawn, recently shared a very alarming post on social media, which is what inspired this article. Among other recent developments.

It’s not just Respawn. Ubisoft has recently been criticized for admitting to being a fan of more AI in the gaming industry. Also, the highly anticipated Black Panther game was cancelled recently by EA, and Cliffhanger Studios has been shut down. According to the data, over 2,300 jobs have been lost in the industry this year, and we know that there were massive layoffs last year as well.

And while we don’t know what the situation is at Respawn Entertainment, it doesn’t seem to be good:

Morale has been at an all-time low. I can say that much. — Patrick Wren (@witdarkstar.bsky.social) May 28, 2025 at 8:47 PM

Respawn Entertainment is also affiliated with EA, and if this grim social media post has a deeper meaning, then it seems that Respawn Entertainment is looking at the fate of Cliffhanger Studios, which would be horrible.

Respawn Entertainment has given us Titanfall, Apex Legends, and Star Wars Jedi, among other games, so if there are any problems, then it’s definitely a bad thing going forward.

Again, we don’t know what inspired Wren to write this post, but we do hope that the situation is not as grim as we’re fearing and that things will get better going forward, especially with the release of the final part of the Star Wars Jedi trilogy.

Well I saw a single unverified tweet saying the opposite. Can I spew out an article and share it here now?

This “article” is literally just saying this guy tweeted something, it doesn’t add anything at all except to say that the games industry is in a rocky state as if anyone reading games journalism doesn’t already know that. They even say they don’t know what prompted Wren to make the post like idk ask him?? Do some journalism maybe??
