Mustafa Al-Athari, an Iraqi soldier who was captured by ISIS after being wounded in battle. Later, ISIS terrorists put him into a vehicle and paraded him through the city streets in front of the people, before executing him by hanging (Mustafa’s “crime,” according to ISIS, was that he was a Shia infidel) and they left his body hanging from a bridge in central Fallujah in 2015. The terrorists thought this act would crush the morale of Iraqis and humiliate the hero Mustafa, but they could not have been more wrong. One year later, in 2016, the city of Fallujah was liberated by the Iraqi army, and justice was served for Mustafa: his captors and killers were arrested and executed.
Thank Bush/Cheney for having made zero plans to secure Iraq after they invaded. They dropped the country into absolute chaos and left a huge power vacuum that brought about ISIS. Like Trump, Bush had no understanding of geopolitics or secondary repercussions of unilateral actions. What makes Cheney particularly evil is that he probably did understand that this would destabilize the entire Middle East but he didn’t care because it would give Western companies access to Iraqi oil. Profit over people has always been the GOP motto.
