I'm so sorry for your loss. My great-grandmother is still alive at 98, and she's outlived three children, two grandchildren, and even a great grandchild, unfortunately.

While aging, I'm sure many people wonder if they'll outlive their spouse, but outliving younger generations must be truly heartbreaking.

My grandfather passed in August at the age of 99. He outlived all of siblings by many years along with his wife, who passed 5 years earlier. He also outlived his oldest son, who passed 8 months earlier and one of his grandchildren, who passed in 2011.

I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to him, but he was ready, and I respect that. It breaks my heart to imagine how alone he felt as his body and his mind shut down. He’d get so upset and start to grieve all over again when we’d have to remind him of someone’s passing that we started to just tell him they were at the store and then deal another hand of euchre. I miss that man.
