I feel very grateful to have had the opportunity to take my late Great Grandmother, 95 at the time, to a seminar he hosted in New Zealand. He was a huuuuge crush of hers!
To me, David is beyond an icon. He’s the person who fostered my interest in the natural world, helped me to respect it when I was scared and encouraged my interest and understanding of animal behaviour. I’m now back studying animal behaviour at uni with a clear pathway of working in the animal world post grad.

He also has a very clear message, which I believe will resonate with generations to come, if we’re lucky enough to get so far: "After almost 100 years on the planet, I now understand the most important place on Earth is not on land, but at sea."
