One afternoon, I heard the sound of a cardboard box being dragged over gravel. Start .... stop .... start ... stop ...
I got curious what could be making this noise and found a hot air balloon sitting in the street. The pilot was turning the burner on and off to keep the balloon from collapsing but not enough to take off. When the recovery team arrived, they did a controlled collapse of the balloon into the street so it could be rolled up safely.
Plus, I had NO IDEA there were so many kids in the neighborhood ... there were scores of them running around, completely fascinated!
I asked if this was the best place to put down, given the number of trees around. The pilot told me this landing was doable and the lack of power lines made it a good spot for a competent pilot.
Less than 20 minutes after they landed, everything was loaded up and gone.
Neighbor was life flighted following a welding accident. Unsure of his condition, but from what I heard from fellow neighbors, he was pretty banged up but conscious and alert.

Well, there's only one solution. Dixie air horns and a ramp.

I live in a hilly section of Colorado Springs.
