Go about an hour before closing or on one of the nights the Louvre is open late. We were two of 6 people in the room. EDIT: Opposite the Mona Lisa is arguably one of the most beautiful paintings in the Louvre - the Wedding Feast at Cana by Veronese. It's a shame that it is overshadowed and most people don't even notice it.

The opposite wall has a magnificent painting - The Wedding Feast at Cana. It’s huge - 20x30 feet (6x10m).
