Three months into his second term, President Donald Trump’s approval rating is lower than at any point in the term of one president he’s referred to as the “worst president in history.”

The 47th president’s approval rating stands at 41%, while his disapproval rating is at 54%, according to a YouGov/Economist poll released Wednesday.

Trump’s net approval is minus 13, a 19-point swing from the plus 6 rating when his term began. This stands in contrast to any point in the solitary term of his predecessor, Joe Biden, whose net approval was plus 11, according to the poll.

While Trump had the same net approval on immigration when his term started, the poll shows a big plunge to minus 5.

His approval/disapproval among Americans remains typically split along party lines, with the majority of independents disapproving of his job so far. Thirty percent of independents approve of his actions as president, while 59% disapprove, the poll shows.

Among Democrats, 92% disapprove of his performance as president so far, with 7% approving. Republicans, at 86%, approve of Trump, while 12% do not.

Young people largely disapprove of the president, including 57% of 18- to 29-year-olds and 58% of 30- to 44-year-olds, according to the poll. Americans over 45 also disapprove by slimmer margins, including half of respondents between 45 and 64 years old, and 52% of Americans 65 and older.

More women disapprove of Trump than men, at 59% versus 49%, the poll shows.

By race, approval and disapproval are dead even among white voters, at 48% each. Black voters disapprove of the president at 74%, while 65% of Hispanic voters disapprove.

The presidential rating game varies among historians, but two names are commonly referred to as the worst president in American history.

In 2021, C-SPAN conducted its presidential historians survey ranking the presidents. At the top were Abraham Lincoln, followed by George Washington and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Massachusetts’ own John F. Kennedy ranked eighth, between Thomas Jefferson and Ronald Reagan; John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams ranked 15th and 17th, respectively, sandwiched around James Madison. Born in Milton, George H.W. Bush ranked at 21, above his son (born in New Haven) at 29.

Another man Trump previously referred to as the worst president, Barack Obama, ranked high on the list at 10.

Trump ranked low on the list, at 41. At the bottom were the two presidents commonly referred to as the worst, who both bookend Lincoln: Andrew Johnson, Lincoln’s successor, at 43, and the 15th president, James Buchanan, at 44.

The YouGov/Economist poll was conducted between April 19 and 22, with a total of 1,625 U.S adult citizens. The poll’s margin of error was 3.3% among registered voters.

I know Americans have a short memory span but you only have to go back to #45 to find the previous worst president in history.
