PERRYSBURG, Ohio (WTVG) - A Perrysburg teacher is facing a criminal trespassing charge after allegedly showing up to a student’s house unannounced to discuss a student’s homework assignment.

William Hilt, who was placed on leave from Hull Prairie Intermediate School in March, appeared in court on April 1 where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to a Perrysburg police report, Hilt allegedly followed a student’s school bus to her house to verify that she completed her homework assignment. In an email to the school, the student’s parent’s said they weren’t aware the teacher was stopping by the house and they found it really weird and concerning.

The police report states when the parents confronted Hilt about why he stopped at the house, Hilt allegedly told them he was confirming that the student completed her assignment because if all the students in the class did, they would earn a pizza party.

Perrysburg Schools tells 13 Action News that Hilt was placed on administrative leave before the start of the next school day. He will remain on leave pending the completion of an investigation into his actions.

The superintendent says administrators are grateful the family reported the interaction and also encouraged students and families to speak up whenever they have a concern about staff behavior.

The school district issued a statement on April 1. You can read the full statement here.

Something tells me this isn't the same thing as Mr. Hand trying to finally get Jeff Spicoli to learn a little history (on his time instead of Mr. Hand's) right before the big dance.
