He refused to stay in the Apostolic Palace and stayed here so that he was around average people. He was a very humble man.

This is a standard room at Casa Santa Marta, not the pope's room in 201. His was a little nicer, but not much, and certainly no where near the level of the The Apostolic Palace residence.
