If Donald Trump is looking for a pat on the back, he might not want to take a look at the latest data from one of the polls that has been most favorable to him.
Because … well, it’s just not good news for the president.
CNN data guru Harry Enten rolled out the breakdown of the latest CBS/YouGov poll on the network Monday.
“I would argue this is the worst set of polling data that Donald Trump has had in his entire second term as president,” Enten said. “In part, because the CBS News/YouGov poll that came out yesterday has been one of his best.”
Enten then showed the numbers that revealed that back in November 42% of those polled said that the economy was getting worse. That number jumped to 49% in February and was at 51% in March. It’s 53% now, per the poll.
“The majority of Americans think that the economy is getting worse,” Enten said. “It’s an 11-point jump from November to now, and of course Donald Trump won the 2024 election because he promised to fix the economy and yet views of the economy are going down. The percentage of those who say it’s getting worse are going up.”
And the polling results got worse from there for the president because it revealed that back in March 34% of people blamed him for the state of the economy while 38% blamed former president Joe Biden.
CBS' new poll is, I'd argue, the worst poll for Trump during his entire 2nd term:
-Most say the economy is getting worse
-A huge shift from March with most now saying Trump (not Biden) is responsible for the economy
-Trump's net approval goes negative in one of his best polls pic.twitter.com/q8TiVnGY5Y — (((Harry Enten))) (@ForecasterEnten) April 14, 2025
Now, 54% blame Trump for the economy while only 21% blame Biden.
“Donald Trump wants to say, ‘Don’t blame me if you’re upset with the state of the economy, blame the other guy,‘” Enten said. “I don’t think Americans are buying what he is selling at this point.
“The idea that Donald Trump is trying to sell to the American public is that it’s the other guy, it’s not me, it’s the other guy, Joe Biden,” he continued. “The American public is no longer buying this argument like they were back in March, and of course what is so important here is we have had the tariff war in the last month. That is what is going on. I believe that a massive shift is occurring because Americans are seeing what is happening on their television screens. They are seeing what is happening in the bond market. One day Donald Trump says one thing about the tariff war, then another day he says another thing. One day an advisor says one thing, and the next day that same advisor says another thing, and all of a sudden Americans are picking up on this. And this idea that you can blame Joe Biden … look at this again, 54-to-21, a clear majority are now blaming Donald Trump for the economy, not Joe Biden.”
There was still more bad news in the polling.
Enten showed that the CBS/YouGov poll had Trump’s approval rating at plus-6 points in early February, at plus-2 in late February and even in March.
It’s at minus-6 points in the latest poll.
“That is a six-point drop in less than a month and why is that occurring?” he said. “It’s because of the tariff war. The voters are punishing Donald Trump in one of his best polls, and now even that best poll is a negative poll for Donald Trump.”

This sort of poll will bother him, but he'll just go after the pollsters and journalists who broadcast the results, not change what he's doing to earn those results.

"‘worst set of polling data’ of his entire presidency" so far...

Is this divided further into party lines somewhere?
Because I'm willing to bet MAGA thinks everything is great now with everyone else staring in horror. Which would be a perfect flip from before Trump's rule.
