Russia strikes Sumy on Palm Sunday amid ballistic missile threat

Russian forces struck Sumy on Palm Sunday, April 13, amid a declared ballistic missile threat across several regions, according to Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) on Telegram .

"Russians have struck Sumy again," he wrote.

Local media reported hearing two explosions in the city prior to the official confirmation.

"An explosion was heard in Sumy again," wrote suspilne.media, following reports of another blast.

Other local outlets mentioned that the city had experienced two "hits."

The recent shelling of Sumy has already resulted in a significant number of casualties.

"Today, as a result of the missile strike, there are many dead... The enemy has once again attacked peaceful civilians," said Artem Kobzar, the acting mayor of Sumy.

On the morning of April 13, an air raid alert was declared across several regions of Ukraine due to the ballistic missile threat. The Air Force reported that there was a risk of a ballistic missile strike from Kursk.

Russian forces have been continuously shelling Sumy, using both drones and ballistic missiles. On the night of April 6, Russia attacked Sumy with drones, targeting civilian infrastructure.

Additionally, on the afternoon of March 24, Russian forces launched a missile strike on downtown Sumy. The attack damaged apartment buildings and a school, with many injured. A total of 108 people were affected by the attack.
