US President Donald Trump will impose an additional 84% in tariffs on all imports from China on Wednesday, the White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has said.
The additional levies will mean all goods from China will be subject to a tariff of at least 104%.
"Countries like China, who have chosen to retaliate and try to double down on their mistreatment of American workers, are making a mistake," Leavitt told reporters.
"The Chinese want to make a deal, they just don't know how to do it."
Earlier on Tuesday, Beijing said it would “fight to the end” after Trump threatened to impose an additional 50% in tariffs on all Chinese imports.
The trade war between the world’s two largest economies has intensified, with both sides showing little inclination to negotiate.
