The Iranian foreign minister will attend talks with the US on Saturday after President Trump’s announcement that both sides will start direct negotiations, according to Iranian media.
However, Iran has denied that it will hold direct talks. State media have reported that Abbas Araghchi, the foreign minister, will negotiate via mediators in Oman with Steve Witkoff, Trump’s Middle East envoy.
Trump announced on Monday that the US would begin direct negotiations with Iran over its nuclear programme, and warned that Iran was “going to be in great danger” if the talks failed.

Trump announced last month that he had sent a letter to the Iranian regime demanding negotiations and threatening military action.

Trump’s language itself will put off any real development. His threats and dramatic fueled framing make it hard for the other side to engage without looking weak.
Iran will do anything to avoid appearing that, especially with deep rooted anti-US sentiment strongg. Their posture is also the same in many ways. But in this case, practical diplomacy doesn't look to be the thing of current US administration.

Why on Earth would Iran ever negotiate a nuclear deal with the USA? They did it once, at great political expense, and Trump deleted it because it was an Obama achievement. The USA, simply put, is not a reliable partner.
Not to mention how Ukraine proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that once you have nukes you keep them, because the nuclear umbrella is only reliable if it's your nukes in your land.
