Some context for Americans - Pierre Poilievre is the conservative party leader in Canada and most likely to be Prime Minister if Conservatives win the upcoming election which will happen some time this year.
Canadian conservatives recently abandoned more moderate politics under O'Toole (the previous leader they replaced with Poilievre) and PP (reddit shorthand for Pierre Poilievre) has taken a harder right position. PP is engaging in "anti woke" politics and has ties to the Trump administration. He is largely following the American conservative playbook and policy proposals.
Justin Trudeau stepped down from the Prime Minister's office last week and has been replaced by Mark Carney. Trudeau was the liberal party leader and had been in the Prime Minister's seat for a decade. He was wildly unpopular (disapproval 74% in December) mainly because of cost of living in Canada has exploded on his watch and immigration levels had swelled to 300% above normal.
