History continues to repeat itself. Folks should read up about the Kent State shootings in which the Ohio National Guard shot and killed 4 unarmed students and wounded 9 others. The students were involved in a rally protesting aspects of the US's involvement in the Vietnam War.
Eight of the shooters were charged with depriving the students of their civil rights, but were later acquitted.
The events leading up to the shooting were complex, and it wasn't as simple as a group of overzealous soldiers opening fire on a quiet campus, but it was still a massive overreach. It should not have happened once, and as we look back at this period in history, it's likely that we'll be able to see the events currently unfolding that will lead to this happening again.

The officers involved were not prosecuted.
2025 and things have changed. Now the government will prosecute the students.
