FRANKFORT, Ky. (WAVE) - A case of measles has been confirmed in Kentucky.

The Kentucky Department of Public Health said the person had traveled internationally to an area with an ongoing measles transmission. The person went to a Planet Fitness on Allen Way in Frankfort on Feb. 17 from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. while they were infectious. Anyone who was at the gym during that time might have been exposed.

“Measles is one of the most contagious viruses in the world,” said KDPH Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack. “Fortunately, measles can be prevented with the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, which is safe and effective. Vaccines are an essential tool to keep children and adults safe and healthy.”

Measles spreads through the air and can cause high fever, cough, runny nose, watery eyes and a rash that can spread all over the body.

“If you have been exposed to measles are going to see a health care practitioner, it is important to call the facility to make them aware of your measles exposure and symptoms prior to entering so that others are not exposed,” Dr. Stack said.

The last confirmed case of measles in Kentucky was in February 2023.

Hope the family of that one dead child is rethinking things for the sake of any other kids they might have.

Should they be prosecuted the same way as an abortion???

Man I'm glad I grew up when I did, before the internet, and had parents who said "hey, you're the doctor, vaccinate away"

Because TB wasn't enough. Concerning? Should we involve actual medical personnel? Or should we just ask RFK to watch it again?
