LEE COUNTY, Iowa (WGEM) - The chairman of the Lee County Board of Supervisors was cited on Tuesday after showing signs of intoxication at their weekly board meeting.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Tom Schulz showed up for the meeting at the county building showing signs and odors of intoxication.
Deputies said Schulz left the building for medical attention.
Deputies said County Attorney Ross Braden made the decision to investigate Schulz. They believe Schulz was intoxicated while performing his duties as a supervisor and while in a public space.
After returning from seeking medical attention, deputies attempted to speak to Schulz, but he had already left and gone home.
According to deputies, they went to Schulz’s house to talk to him, but he wasn’t home. Eventually, deputies were able to make contact with Schulz while he was walking down the street.
Deputies reported Schulz exhibited signs of intoxication. They obtained a breath sample and cited Schulz, then released him.
