For anyone interested..... (and fuck Lloyd for doing this, he should have euthanized Mike.)

On September 10, 1945, in Fruita, Colorado, farmer Lloyd Olsen set out to butcher a young Wyandotte rooster for dinner. With a swing of his axe, he severed the bird’s head—but miraculously, Mike didn’t die. The blade had missed his jugular vein and most of his brainstem, leaving just enough behind to keep him alive.

Instead of keeling over, Mike stood up, wobbled around, and even tried to preen his feathers. Olsen, stunned by what he had just witnessed, decided to spare the bird and see what happened. When Mike was still alive the next morning, he started hand-feeding him with an eyedropper, dripping a mixture of milk, water, and small bits of grain directly into his exposed throat.

Word spread fast, and soon, Mike became a national sensation. He was taken on the road as a sideshow act, earning the nickname “The Headless Wonder Chicken.” People paid to see him, newspapers wrote about him, and he even appeared in Time and Life magazines. At the peak of his fame, Mike reportedly earned his owner the equivalent of $60,000 per year in today’s money.

For 18 months, Mike survived in this bizarre state, despite the daily struggle of feeding and clearing his throat to prevent choking. But in March 1947, while staying in a motel during a tour, Mike choked on mucus in his throat. Without his usual syringe to clear it, Olsen couldn't save him, and the world’s most famous headless chicken finally died.

While Olsen claimed he had kept Mike alive out of affection, the reality was clear—Mike had become a money-making sideshow attraction, a freak of nature exploited for profit. His story remains both an incredible biological anomaly and a dark reminder of human opportunism.
