LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A coalition of nine Nebraska state senators is urging the state’s federal delegation to oppose what they call “unprecedented government overreach” by Elon Musk.
In a letter sent Wednesday, the nine senators raised ethical, security, and constitutional concerns over Musk’s role as a temporary special government employee. They argue that his involvement in federal agencies, including access to classified information and financial systems, lacks proper oversight and poses a conflict of interest.
Musk leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a temporary organization that advises the Trump administration on how to make the US government more efficient.
State senators warn that his extensive business interests, particularly as CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, create conflicts with the federal agencies he now helps oversee.
“The American people deserve transparency and accountability, and it is crucial that our federal delegation stand against any potential corruption and call for investigations to discover any legal and ethical violations that may have occurred,” the senators wrote.
The letter also raises concerns about Musk’s $288 million in political contributions during the 2024 election, suggesting that his donations may have played a role in securing his government influence. The senators are urging a bipartisan effort to investigate any potential legal and ethical violations.
The letter was signed by Sens. Megan Hunt, John Cavanaugh, Machaela Cavanaugh, Terrell McKinney, George Dungan, Jane Raybould, Victor Rountree, Margo Juarez, and Ashlei Spivey.

I feel like some people in the comments are failing to realize that the senators mentioned are not the U.S. Senators representing Nebraska but members of the Nebraska Legislature. The Nebraska Legislature has 16 Democrats, including the nine individuals being referred to in this article. I won’t claim to know the voting records of these nine individuals but I don’t think it’s a given that they specifically “voted for this”.

How much more screaming and yelling will we hear about investigating Musk and the government until someone actually does something? I find it highly unlikely that anything will come out of it as Republicans have a trifecta.

I didn’t expect to hear squat from Nebraska until they abolished the USDA’s farm subsidies.
