Canadians were in Canada successfully defending themselves from the invading Americans.

The British were the ones who burned the White House in retaliation for the marauding Americans burning public buildings in Canada.

I live in the Niagara Frontier in New York, where all of this area was destroyed during the War of 1812. It was precipitated by both the destruction of modern-day Toronto, but also a stupid act of an American militia general who decided to burn what is now Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, before escaping to the US side. The people who carried out the actual act were Canadian traitors.

A month later, in December 1813, the British crossed the Niagara and captured Fort Niagara, and then proceeded to burn all of the Niagara Frontier 30+ miles south to what is now Buffalo. This major escalation of warfare eventually culminated in the burning of Washington.

The point is that American hubris has cost us in the past and that those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Its Canada for crying out loud, they're our best friends, why would we fuck with their economy?!?

The Burning of Washington, also known as the Capture of Washington, was a successful British amphibious attack conducted by Rear-Admiral George Cockburn

The attack was in part a retaliation for prior American actions in British-held Upper Canada, in which U.S. forces had burned and looted York the previous year and had then burned large portions of Port Dover.
