In recent years, the gaming industry has faced challenges, with revenue growth slowing after a decade of expansion. Despite this, PC gaming has emerged as a ‘bright spot‘ in the market. A report by Epyllion, led by CEO Matthew Ball, highlights that PC games now generate more revenue than console games.
Between 2011 and 2021, both PC and console gaming saw significant growth, with consumer spending increasing by nearly $50 billion. However, since 2021, console gaming’s growth has slowed. Sales of the latest consoles, such as the Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5, have lagged behind previous generations by about 7 million units after 49 months on the market.
In contrast, PC gaming has continued to thrive, with revenues growing by 20% since 2021. This success is attributed to several factors. PCs offer a vast library of games, extensive backward compatibility, and seamless access to web browsers, social platforms, and streaming tools. Additionally, PCs can deliver superior performance compared to consoles.
The momentum behind PC gaming shows no signs of slowing. The availability of former console-exclusive games on PC has broadened the platform’s appeal. Advancements in portable PC gaming devices, like those running SteamOS, have made gaming more accessible. Moreover, platforms such as ‘Roblox’ have introduced gaming to a younger audience, who may prefer PCs over traditional consoles.
In summary, while the gaming industry faces hurdles, PC gaming continues to grow, offering diverse experiences and flexibility that attract a wide range of players.

There are so many quality indie games that never seem to come to consoles, or if they are locked behind some bs exclusivity deal.
