I will be a year on 2/1/2025. I say I stopped in solidarity with my wife as she had to stop because of new medicine. But really, after 10 hard years of grinding, I was drinking 2 bottles of wine a night, having 4-5 Bourbon & waters when we weren't drinking at home, we'd spend about $300/wk on drinks outside of the house.
We dropped all 8 wine club memberships, threw out all the liquor, donated about 70 bottles to family members. Wife's medication helped and I stopped being depressed because she wasn't so fucking sick and I could ACTUALLY hang out with her. I also dropped 35 lbs, my skin is better, and I sleep now. Also, sexy time is a possibility.
I don't need to say it, but I WILL NOT DRINK WITH YOU TODAY. (IWNDWYT). I love my wife and myself too much to go back.
Good luck OP.
Edit: Big thanks to everyone, but I'm not OP. I was standing in solidarity with OP. The hardest thing that occurred to the both actually really just liked the taste of wine, beer, and liqour. We didn't like getting fucked up. I'm sitting here drinking and Atheletic Pilsner, and it tastes like (if not better than) a Miller Lite.
Good luck to everyone else that is quitting. Find a new hobby; find a new lease on life. You really don't need that extra drink: you need a few more present moments with your loved ones.
