Rotterdam district police officers had a noteworthy encounter with a car that was lit up completely with Christmas lights. Police from the Oude Maas unit said on Instagram that the "rather conspicuous" Cupra was spotted in a parking lot, drawing the attention of the officers involved.
“It looked like a driving Christmas tree," police said. "Normally, people do everything they can to not stand out to us, but that was not the case!"
Police officers told the drivers about the traffic laws, stating that it is not permitted to drive with the holiday lighting, as it can cause dangerous situations on the road. The driver understood this and turned the lights off when leaving the parking spot.
Drivers can be fined up to 140 euros for decorative lamps that are too bright. Globally, the trend to put Christmas lights on a car went viral in the holiday season of 2021 on both TikTok and Instagram. It has resurfaced in recent months, especially on TikTok.
“At least we know he is ready for the holidays!” police said of the Cupra driver.
