My "mother" did the same. Bailed on my sister (4) and I (7) to shack up with a trucker and his two children. Acted like her own brood didn't exist from then on out. To her credit, she stayed with him until she died, but she died alone as she recognized no one at her bedside. Karma's an ace in the hole sometimes.

Their dad abandoned them as well. Moved to Washington state, married another woman and raised the children she already had.
