Azerbaijan suspends flights to ten Russian cities - UPDATED

In light of the ongoing investigation into the recent Embraer 190 aircraft accident and potential flight safety risks, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) has announced the suspension of flights from Baku to seven Russian airports, effective from December 28, 2024

Flights from Azerbaijan to 3 more Russian cities - Saratov, Nizhny Novgorod, and Vladikavkaz will be suspended starting tomorrow, Report informs, citing Azerbaijan Airlines.

In light of the ongoing investigation into the recent Embraer 190 aircraft accident and potential flight safety risks, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) has announced the suspension of flights from Baku to seven Russian airports, effective from December 28, 2024, until the completion of the final investigation.

Report informs, citing the company, that the decision, based on the directive from the Azerbaijan State Civil Aviation Agency, affects flights to the following destinations:

Prior to this announcement, AZAL had already suspended flights from Baku to Grozny and Makhachkala on December 25.

The decision to halt flights to these seven Russian cities is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and crew

Notably, the suspension of flights is not limited to AZAL; other airlines operating flights to these destinations have also been instructed to halt their services for safety reasons.

Passengers holding tickets to the mentioned cities are entitled to a full refund or the option to change their tickets free of charge.

I am honestly shocked they would continue to fly to Russia, or over it, at all after this, I know it’s probably most of their market but Russia shot their plane and dozens died.
