CHILTON COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - A funny story out of Maplesville, police arrested a man in a grinch suit after he had a bit too much eggnog.
Man in grinch suit arrested for public intoxication (Chilton County Sheriff's Office)
Last Sunday, at the Maplesville Old Fashion Christmas event, police noticed a man dressed as the grinch acting strangely in the booths at the venue. Later, at the Stanton Christmas Parade, police spotted the same man again acting aggressively toward nearby parade goers.
Police arrested the suspect and took him to the Chilton County Jail on charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, theft of property and, “intent to steal Christmas cheer,” according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office also released the following statement:
Subject is currently grumpy while he waits to get sober. District Judge Chris Speaks, set a bond in the amount of 500 Candy Canes and the Condition of Release for 40 hours of community service work in Santa’s Workshop. At the end of this ordeal, while being released the subject showed remorse and felt all toasty inside. Then he thought of something he hadn’t before. He said, “What if Christmas doesn’t come from a store...What if Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!” Sheriff John Shearon wants to commend the Deputies on a job well done and keeping the citizens safe!! Sheriff Shearon and The Sheriff’s Office wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

This is clearly satire. His bond was set "in the amount of 500 Candy Canes and the Condition of Release for 40 hours of community service work in Santa’s Workshop". Goes to show most people don't ever read past the headline.
