My parents had their 50th dinner a few years ago, my dad seemed tired, kept rubbing his eyes. That visit to see them for that was the last time I saw him, he died a month later in their driveway going out to get the mail. My mom found him and called me at work telling me she was in the ambulance with him on the way to the hospital but she was pretty sure he died.
I left work and twenty minutes later, she called me to say he was “gone.” That was a weird day, so surreal, culminating in a late night flight back to DC, back to where I had last seen him a month before.
