People keep saying Idiocracy was a prophetic film, yet the writing was on the wall.
Mike Judge was inspired to make the film after witnessing an altercation between two heavy women at Tomorrowland at Disney World, asking if this was the future Walt Disney envisioned.
During the filming, Judge hired a group of college students to watch Ass, the film-within-a-film and was shocked when everyone started laughing at the single shot of a human's rear. Then, a producer suggested using a ridiculous looking shoe, thinking they would never be popular. The shoes in question were Crocs.
I believe strongly both of these stories indicated the film was speaking more truths then even Judge thought at the time.
