Here's the oil painting for my card Vivien Reid from the Magic: The Gathering Foundations set. This is my very first planeswalker card, my third original oil painting, and my 16th card for magic! I’ve been drawing and painting since I was a little kid and I’ve always really admired the artwork done for magic, it’s such a wonderful experience being able to work on it now myself :-)
The prompt called for a movie-poster type shot of Vivien on a forest trail with patches of snow on the ground and accompanied by a spirit incarnation of a shoulder-height boar. Since it was for Foundations and there was no specific plane associated with the card or look that I needed to give the environment, I went with some beautiful pacific northwest evergreens and foliage from my little corner of Canada.
