Can you imagine sitting down to enjoy a meal only to have your food suddenly soaked with urine? That is exactly what happened to a mother in China’s Beijing who shared the unusual incident on social media, leaving users shocked. Now, you might wonder why there is so much fuss? After all, it is not uncommon for toddlers to have little accidents. But what really left people stunned was that her family continued eating the meal with urine.

As reported by South China Morning Post (SCMP), the incident occurred when her toddler, held by his grandmother beside the dining table, unexpectedly urinated onto the family’s breakfast which included steamed buns, eggs and vegetables. The mother “proudly" captured the moment on camera and later posted it online.

Although she did not reveal details about her son’s age or family background, the post created quite a buzz, drawing a flood of reactions. Many users expressed disbelief with one person asking, “So, did you guys end up eating that food?" “Yes, we did eat it," the mother confirmed, explaining that the baby’s grandparents didn’t mind, so the family carried on with breakfast as usual.

In her post, the mother mentioned that the child rarely wears disposable diapers at home as she believes they interfere with natural routines. “During the day, we rarely put disposable diapers on him, usually just using a cloth or letting him go bare. We do not cover it because it is better not to interrupt the child while he is urinating," she wrote. She also took a moment to praise her photography, saying, “Mum’s snapshot skills are quite good."

After the mother confirmed that her family had eaten the meal despite it being soaked with urine, social media users were left in disbelief.

One person asked, “Is this real? You continued to eat food soaked with urine?"

“Wouldn’t the whole house smell like urine? This family has really opened my eyes," someone another.

“As a mother myself, I find this hard to believe," commented another viewer.

As per the report, in traditional Chinese culture, the urine of young boys is thought to have special powers. It is believed to boost energy, reduce fevers and even protect against bad luck or spirits.

Urine from boys under 10 is considered particularly powerful and the strongest is believed to be from the first morning before a boy’s one-month birthday. In southern China, there is even a dish called “urine eggs" based on this belief. To make it, urine is collected from young children, usually in schools and used to boil eggs. This dish is believed to help prevent tiredness in spring and protect against heat stroke in summer.

As a dad, there is nothing “shocking” about a toddler peeing on anything. Except maybe an exposed wire.

What is shocking is that they ate the food.

Do you see this writing?

Do you know what it means?

It means hospitality.

And you can’t piss on hospitality. I won’t allow it!

Grandparent holding baby. Baby pees onto the table, including some of the food.

They ate it anyway since the grandparents didn't mind.

Always hearing about strange things other cultures do, and still never ceases to surprise me.
