So crazy; growing up I had such pride in being American. I remember being in high school in the late 90s just thinking we were going go set the example for the world. We would hold ourselves to the highest standard, we would continue to work over coming sexism, racism, xenophobia, homophobia.

I miss that optimism. We have as good a chance to right this ship as we do this country completely falling apart.

Empires don’t last long

Edit: haha Reddit cares award. So funny triggers these folks.

Honestly, travelling around the states I’ve encounter incredible levels of hospitality and kindness. Met some great folks that went out of their way to make me feel welcome.

This is just another polarizing generalization that’s really part of the bigger problem working its way into many countries. Refusal of dialogue, unwillingness to compromise. Blade cuts both directions.

EDIT: This comment has garnered a lot more attention than I anticipated. Understandably people are quite passionate, as they should be, on the new presidency - both in opposition and support. I just want to make clear that I was not intending to trivialize the issues that people may face under new leadership. I only wanted to bring to light that - in my opinion - people are a lot more similar than social media, this platform, and the media at large would like people to believe. There will always be people on the political spectrum that you will be too far away from ideologically to find common ground. However, demonizing for the beliefs of others will just lead to an increasingly larger rift and pull the bulk of people that are closer to centre into these areas where compromise and common sense can’t prevail. I don’t have the answers on how to find it… it’s merely speculation on my part - but I sincerely hope the USA can collectively find a way forward.
