Remember. We would not have this problem if he didn't get local help. Vote even on small elections. Time to clean up your own backyard. He shouldn't even be an option.

I'm gonna level with you.

I'm originally from the Illinois from a long line of conservatives. Grandad was a hardcore Regan fan because they were both from Central Illinois. But I also grew up with the racism, and crap I witnessed in high school disgusted me, not only because I witnessed it but because I didnt speak up about it.

I served in the military and voted for Bush. I got my honorable discharge right before 9/11. Then that happened. And then I saw the response to it. And when I saw how the party started slandering a presidential candidate, senator from Illinois, based on the color of his skin, I jumped ship and became an independent voter.

The party has only slid further down the slope since then. Racism, misogyny, bigotry, sexism, pearl clutching, anti immigration, scapegoating... Either it's become worse or it wasn't his apparent when I was a kid. It's hard to say.

You're not alone in the party of disaffected former GOP voters. It's always better the vote with your conscience than along party lines. Welcome aboard.

Edit 1: not sure how Reagan got turned into Trashcan, but I've corrected it 😅

Edit 2,3: deepest thanks for the awards.
