Kamala Harris has said the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar could end the war in Gaza.
“This moment gives us an opportunity to finally end the war in Gaza,” the US vice-president and Democratic presidential nominee said while campaigning in Wisconsin.
She said the war must end “such that Israel is secure, the hostages are released, the suffering in Gaza ends and the Palestinian people can realise their right to dignity, security, freedom and self-determination”.
“Justice has been served,” Ms Harris said.
Joe Biden said he would be speaking with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders to congratulate them, as well as to discuss the return of hostages and “ending this war once and for all”.
Israel killed the mastermind of the October 7 massacre Sinwar during ground combat in Gaza.
Israel Defence Forces troops fired upon a group of Hamas terrorists in a clash in the southern city of Rafah. It is not yet clear if the incident happened on Wednesday or Thursday.
Photographs from the scene showed the corpse of Sinwar, Israel’s most wanted man, with a bloody hole in his skull.
The soldiers who killed Sinwar were not hunting him and came upon him in a chance encounter, Israeli media reported.

Small detail, not an airstrike. Reports are coming out on national Israeli television that a standard combat unit was operating in the area, spotted the terrorists entering a structure. A tank fired on the structure which was followed by more firepower and then soldiers moving in, at which point his (probable) body was discovered and all this started.

Sinwar is dead. DNA tests will take a few hours, but the images and all other indications seem clear.
The big question is - who replaces him?

Pictures comparing his teeth look very convincing. Highly likely that it’s him.
Edit. Confirmed - it is him.
