The entire motive for Russia’s invasion is 19th century thinking. Land? Who cares about land anymore? Everyone else is playing Monopoly and Russia is playing Risk. Being able to claim a couple more square kilometers at the price of thousands of lives and decades of economic prosperity is utterly pyrrhic. It could be a century or more before this city returns to its prewar population. What an utter waste, just to satisfy the urges of a tyrant in Moscow.
