There was another really violent day that preceded this: the so-called “Night of the long knives” which was when the Nazis consolidated their political power by murdering or imprisoning all political elements in the German government that weren’t loyal to Hitler or were critical of national socialism.
Kristallnacht wouldn’t have been possible without it.
