During a star-studded concert at Madison Square Garden celebrating Bob Dylan’s 30th anniversary as a recording artist, Sinéad O'Connor (1966-2023) was heavily booed for having torn up a photo of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live two weeks earlier. Responding to this, Kris Kristofferson (1936-2024) walked up to her, put his arm around her and told her, “Don’t let the bastards get you down.”
May they both rest in peace.

I think I remember an interview with her where she said this was the first time they met. Kris is a stand-up guy.

“Don’t let the Bastards get you down”
Kris Kristofferson also writes a touching ballad ‘Sister Sinead’ dedicated to her.
