A Pennsylvania man is now sitting in the same jail that police say he tried to break into over the weekend.

Allegheny County police said in a Facebook post that the man, identified as 34-year-old Pittsburgh resident Charles Felder, was found injured outside of the Allegheny County Jail around 7 a.m. on Saturday.

WTAE-TV reported that surveillance video showed that Felder began trying to break into the visitor’s lobby at 4 a.m. before he got tired and collapsed.

Felder used a garbage can to bash the lobby glass and repeatedly yanked the door handles, causing some damage, WTAE reported.

Police told the station that Felder got angry when responders arrived to help him and spat in a medic’s face. Felder was taken to a hospital for minor injuries and released.

According to online court documents, Felder was charged with attempted burglary, criminal mischief, institutional vandalism and harassment, and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 20.

He was ordered held in the jail after failing to post a $5,000 bond. Records show he was still in custody there on Monday.

Police did not give a motive for Felder trying to break into the jail.
